Paul Argyle

Paul is the Strategic Advisor to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester and the Combined Authority (GMCA) for Fire & Resilience and provides strategic leadership in the delivery of cost-effective and efficient joint multi-agency working to deliver better outcomes for communities and enable delivery of core objectives within the Greater Manchester Strategy.

Paul provides a strategic advice function to the Mayor, Deputy Mayors and political leaders with a focus on multi-agency collaboration, interoperability between emergency services and their partners, together with the delivery of safer, stronger and more resilient communities in Greater Manchester.

Having recently provided strategic support to the Mayor’s Independent Review into the Manchester Arena attack, and the Recovery Coordinating Group that set up after the attack, he is now overseeing the learning from the incident.

He also works alongside Greater Manchester’s Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) to deliver the 100 Resilient Cities programme and United Nations’ Making Cities Resilient Campaign. To aid these programmes he works with international and national experts to identify knowledge, solutions and lessons learned in other cities that can be tailored to address similar multi-agency issues in Greater Manchester.

Prior to this Paul was a career professional Fire Officer working for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service for 31 years, and worked in a range of operational and specialist postings across the county, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

Having represented the Fire Service for over 4 years on the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum (the LRF), Paul was nominated as the Chairperson of the Greater Manchester Local Resilience Forum in June 2015 and continues as the Chair currently.
