Biography
I am a FAO Officer, technical coordinator of the FAO “Food for the Cities” Programme through which FAO provides support to cities to address issues related to urbanization and food security. In particular, the Programme provides technical and policy support to local institutions to assess and plan sustainable and resilient city region food systems with strong rural urban linkages, focusing on areas such as urban and peri-urban agriculture, food supply and distribution, nutrition, food safety, food waste management, etc. This also includes supporting local institutions in designing integrated policies and planning interventions aiming at reinforcing food systems, with strong rural-urban connections, in creating multi-stakeholder governance bodies in order to promote multi-level, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary decision making on food system strategies and planning.
I have a MSc in tropical and subtropical agriculture that obtained in Italy (University of Florence) and Portugal (Technical University of Lisbon). His work experience includes more than 15 years of experience in the field of international development cooperation within the United Nations system (FAO and UNDP) and research institutions.
This encompasses a range of programme/project design and management, policy support and research activities in the area of agricultural, rural and urban development, food security, natural resources management with field-level experience in countries in Europe Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America.
